Aviation shares slide on dull passenger traffic data

• Kingfisher Airlines (down 4.58%), Jet Airways (India) (down 1.64%) and SpiceJet (down 0.84%), edged lower.The BSE Sensex was down 64.94 points, or 0.35% at 18,726.99.

• The Ministry of Civil Aviation said after trading hours on Thursday, 18 October 2012, that as per the passenger traffic data submitted by various domestic airlines, the number of passengers carried by them declined 0.9% to 438.39 lakh during the 9-month period January-September 2012 over the corresponding period of the previous year.The total domestic passengers carried by the scheduled domestic airlines for the month of September 2012 were 40.18 lakh, down 8.03% compared with 43.69 lakh in August 2012.

• Air India had market share of 19.3% in September 2012. Jet Airways` market share stood at 18.1% and JetLite`s 5.7%. IndiGo had market share of 27.2%, SpiceJet had market share of 18.5%, Go Air`s market share stood at 7.6% and Kingfisher Airlines` market share stood at 3.5% in September 2012.
